Testimonials From Our Guests

"Dear Gene: The Oaxaca tour was nothing short of fantastic! I have nothing but positive and wonderful things to report...it was very well organized and Ivan Diaz, the tour guide was very helpful, knowledgeable and professional. It was worth every penny and even the frustration of having to take time off from teaching. It truly was the trip of a lifetime. Thanks much, LIZ CRUM"

"Gene: Claude and I want you to know that our recent trip to Oaxaca was one of the best trips we have ever taken. It was well organized and Ivan Diaz, our guide, was the greatest! He was very knowledge about the ruins, day of the dead, and everything else that was asked of him. He was always on time and ready to go. Excellent trip. Do you have any trips to Tikal, Guatemala? Claude and Ginger Sowry"

"Dear Gene: Scott and I have a fabulous time in Oaxaca. It was just the right balance of group activities and free time. Ivan was a superb tour guide, very responsive to the dynamics of the group, and very knowledgeable. The evening of 11/1 after the tour to Mitla etc, Scott and I went back to the Zocalo while most of the others stayed in. That ended up being one of the highlights of the week for us. There were multiple parades around the zocalo and down the pedestrian mall. Lots of groups in various costumes with music, and street theater. In front of the cathedral there was a presentation with people taking the part of different sins, in poetry and finally the diablos and death taking them away. In the national palace (which otherwise was closed for renovation) there was a huge sand painting and other altars, including one for the narco-traficantes, and more music, modern dance, and other theater. Behind the church of Santo Domingo on 11/1 and 11/2 there was a theatrical pageant by the ballet folklorico and the university theater dept's (I think), great staging, dance-modern and traditional, lighting, smoke, fireworks, music from traditional to classic to techno, that told the story from the zapotecs to today. It was a wonderful and fitting finale to our trip. Each day the central markets had different items, a big difference on the weekend. Sunday saw lots of market type items laid out in the zocalo. Many of the small stores and part of the markets were closed on Sunday. Our hotel was clean and comfortable, the breakfasts each day very well done. All in all, it was even better than we expected, Barbara"

Once the center of Mixtec and Zapotec civilizations, Oaxaca is a melting pot of prehispanic, colonial and modern influences and was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987.
